Pastor Dan provides an overview of the global and national state of the Church before reviewing 2022 and presenting the proposed budget for 2023.

Our mission is simple: To glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ. This is in direct obedience to Matthew 28:18-20. Every dollar of our budget and every aspect of our ministry functions to fulfill this Great Commission.

Note: Statistical data correction. 57% of Americans are no longer attending church. However, that is of the total population, not former church goers. 1 out of 5 churchgoers from previous years has ceased to attend. Sorry for the error!

Daniel Samms

Dan Samms lives his life hoping that when he dies his obituary looks something like this: “Daniel Samms, husband to Christy, father to Micah, Hannah, and Jayna, and pastor to a local underground church died Friday when authorities executed him for preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ in defiance to anti-proselytization mandates. He was known for loving God and loving people and seemed to operate on a strength not his own. He made disciples of Jesus and taught them how to make other disciples. He hated tyranny, loved guns, and liked woodwork. He loved only one woman and spent every day trying to impress her and glorify God. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren all follow Christ. Services will be held at an undisclosed location due to government sanctions.”

Christology

The theme of the Gospel of Matthew is that Jesus is King. Through His signs and teachings, He proves Himself to be the Messiah, the Son of David, the Son of Man, the Lord of the Sabbath, and God. Matthew 12 continues that theme with a focus on Jesus’ role as Lord of the Sabbath. As the Pharisees reject Jesus in spite of the fact that the Holy Spirit is upon Him, Jesus warns them of the unpardonable sin of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit and tells them that the sign they will receive is the “Sign of Jonah.” Pastor Dan walks us through Matthew 12 in this sermon preparing us for Resurrection Sunday.

Minor Prophets

Hosea is categorized as a “Minor Prophet,” which is another word for “The Book of the Twelve.” Hosea is only minor in the sense of its length. It is no less important than any other book of Scripture. The theme of the book is Israel’s unfaithfulness and God’s faithfulness. The theme is seen in God’s appeal to Israel in Hosea 6:6 when He says that He desires “mercy and not sacrifice,” meaning “steadfast love and not mere ceremony.” Chapters 13-14 close the prophecy and remind us that God always has a redemptive plan at work.
