How to Use Follow: A Handbook for Making Disciples of Jesus Christ

The truth is that you don't need this book.  There have been thousands of books written about the Christian life and how to make disciples.  You don't really need any of them.  All you really need is to know Jesus yourself and rely on the Bible and the Holy Spirit's direction to make disciples.

However, most of us haven't been discipled in the first place.  Most Christians don't know what it means to truly follow Jesus or how to approach the Bible.  Not only that, many Christians are afraid to even mention the Holy Spirit due to all the misunderstanding surrounding Him.

There has ben a dearth of healthy disciple-making.  Many of us just don't know where to start.

Follow: A Handbook for Making Disciples of Jesus Christ is designed to help you know where to start.  It is a frame of reference to help you make disciples.  Here are some ways to use it for disciple-making:

  • Read one chapter at a time, and pull out the Scripture used in each chapter.  For every chapter in the book, have a meeting with a newer believer.  Go over the passages with them and let the Holy Spirit lead your discussion.
  • Give the book to a newer believer.  Meet at least once a week to talk about the topic from that chapter.  Make sure you read the Scripture associated with the chapter.  The stuff written by me is only there to help make sure you are paying attention to key passages of Scripture.  That's what matters.  There are discussion questions for every chapter to help you as you discuss each chapter.
  • Read the book and get inspired to make disciples.  Then, forget about this book.  Fall in love with Jesus more and find yourself in the Bible more.  Let your love for Jesus spill over into other people as the Holy Spirit leads you to make disciples.
  • Buy one million copies of the book, so that I can invest in church planters who will make disciples.

The truth is that I don't care how you use the book.  I just want you to make disciples.  It is the only reason why we are still on this earth (Matthew 28:19-20).

You Can't Judge a Book By Its Cover, but You Can Judge It By Its Table of Contents.
