Paul turns the focus from orthodoxy to orthopraxy in Romans 12, giving a series of imperatives related to spiritual worship. We are commanded to be living sacrifices (rather than dead ones), serving the body of Christ, loving enemies, weeping with mourners and rejoicing with the joyful.

It is a good thing to recognize our sin and thus our need for a Savior, but it is an unwise thing to ignore the joy that comes with being in Christ (see 1 John). Philippians 4:1-9, along with Ecclesiastes 9:7-10 and several other passages, gives us insight into the command to rejoice and feast as we delight in God’s good gifts!
Anxiety takes form most often in concern over future provision. Sometimes, Christians experience anxiety if they haven’t come to an understanding of God’s sovereignty over their salvation. Recently, fear over wicked schemes (conspiracies) has created undue anxiety in our culture, even among Christians. Scripture does not deny the reality of evil plots. In fact, Psalm 37 affirms that wicked men will be scheming. We should presume as much. However, God promises that evil men and their schemes will fade like grass. Philippians 4:4-13 provides practical direction on enjoying peace in Christ.
